ARKIV VILMANSA "RIDING CURVES" EXHIBITION

RIDING CURVES EXHIBITION

Deep, curvaceous lines slice across each canvas, while radiant, harlequin waves sweep your eyes up and around the bodies of unusual creatures. Some have beaks; others bunny ears. But barring physical distinctions, they each possess a cuteness that’s unsettling, borne largely from the animals’ equivocality. “Riding Curves” is a retrospective chronicling the past five years of Arkiv Vilmansa’s career. The pieces showcase his work as a visual artist and toy designer, with his iconic “Arkiv” character at the forefront of many paintings, while new characters “Rabbiv” and “Soulbird” make notable debuts. As the title suggests, the exhibition is centralized on the theme of overcoming adversity or “rolling with the punches.” Many of Vilmansa’s characters are seen embroiled in conflict, be it through physical restraint or combat. “Riding Curves” marks a pivotal turning point in Vilmansa’s career, where past challenges are overcome and the process of moving forward begins.

Opening: Saturday, 23th October 2010 at 5pm
